Frequently Asked Questions:
How do we get around without a car?
There are several options besides on foot, though there are few sidewalks along the roads. Berkshire County, Massachusetts does have a few taxi companies. Taxis charge by the mile, from the destination where they originate AND the mileage back again. They are fairly expensive compared to major American cities. We are just beginning to see Ubers around. Most Ubers must be requested the day before for a scheduled pick-up time. We also have a public bus system, called the B Bus. However, it does not run on Sundays and stops at 7 PM. In the worst-case scenario, there are car rental companies throughout the Berkshires. There is a daily express Peter Pan bus back and forth between NYC and Great Barrington.
How far are you from airports and train stations?
We are 2 hours and 45 minutes from Logan (Boston) airport, about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Bradley (Hartford, CT) airport, and an hour from the Albany airport, New York. There are train stations in Hudson, New York, and Wassaic, New York. The Wassaic station is 30 minutes away. Car services such as Uber are available and cars can be rented in Hudson.
